Hands up if you love a good writers’ festival…

LOVE A GOOD WRITERS’ FESTIVAL?

Then you’re in luck, as the annual Bendigo Writers Festival (BWF) is only one week away.

Now in its fifth year, this emerging festival punches well above its weight with a stellar line-up of locally grown and international talent gracing the stage in 2016.

It’s no secret we have a hankering for writers’ festivals, particularly when they’re located in far-flung, beachside locations. However, the best thing about BWF is that it’s just up the road and you can either tackle a bite size piece or dedicate your entire weekend to all it has to offer.

Some think writers’ festivals are just for published authors and highbrow literary critics. This is simply not the case and what I love most about attending writers’ festivals is sharing the joy of books and storytelling with likeminded people.

So far my schedule includes attending a writing workshop on the Friday (open to anyone) and also the opening night event, featuring Graeme Simsion of The Rosie Project fame. I’m also keen to see former SBS newsreader turned passionate balcony gardener Indira Naidoo, hard-nosed ABC investigative journalist Sarah Ferguson and the incomparable Tim Flannery – my list is endless.

There’s certainly something for everyone and the festival predominantly takes place in and around View Street, the heart of Bendigo. So if you’ve nothing planned next weekend (August 12-14), head to Bendigo and fully immerse yourself in this fabulous event – right on our doorstep.

Hope to see you there!

Christy
